Start with an inspiration piece - Find a piece of art, a beautiful rug, or a great fabric and use it as your starting point. Use this piece and build your palette around it.

Pick your neutrals and use them for the large elements - your wall color, flooring, window treatments and large upholstery pieces. Today's neutrals range from cream to chocolate - taupe to charcoal. Even certain greens can be considered neutrals.

Introduce your color in your smaller items such as accent pillows, lamps, chairs, ottomans and accessories.

By using neutrals for your large elements, it becomes easier to change your scheme by simply changing your accents to create a whole new look easily and inexpensively.
